Gua Sha:
A Restorative Healing Technique
What is Gua Sha?
Gua Sha is a centuries-old restorative technique rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).
-
"Gua" – meaning to scrape
-
"Sha" – referring to the red or purplish petechiae (rash-like spots) that appear after treatment, indicating the release of stagnation
It uses a smooth-edged tool—often made of jade, rose quartz, or stainless steel—along with natural oil to glide over the skin, stimulating the superficial tissues and energy channels.
The Value of Bringing Gua Sha Into Your Healing Journey
How It Works
Ms. Corrie Ander applies gentle yet firm scraping to targeted areas. This action increases blood flow, breaks up stagnation in the subcutaneous layers and meridians, and promotes the smooth movement of Qi (vital energy) and blood.
In TCM, Sha represents blood stasis in the body’s energy channels. Gua Sha clears these blockages, stimulates nerve activity, boosts lymphatic drainage, and facilitates waste removal. Although Gua Sha does not directly remove toxins under the skin, it draws stagnant blood and metabolic waste from vessel walls back into circulation, allowing the body to process and eliminate them naturally (primarily through urine), while enhancing oxygenation and cellular repair. The result is improved circulation, reduced inflammation, and a renewed sense of lightness and balance.

Key Benefits of Gua Sha
-
Muscle Tension & Pain Relief: Eases tightness, stiffness, and chronic discomfort (neck, shoulders, back, arms, legs).
-
Improved Circulation & Lymphatic Drainage: Boosts blood flow, oxygenation, and waste removal for reduced inflammation and faster recovery.
-
Scar Tissue & Tissue Regeneration: Softens adhesions, supports healing, and promotes smoother, healthier tissue.
-
Detoxification & Metabolic Support: Stimulates natural sweat and elimination pathways, aids digestion, and balances bodily functions.
-
Skin Health & Rejuvenation: Tightens, brightens, and revitalizes skin tone; reduces puffiness and toxin buildup for a radiant appearance.
-
Energetic Balance: Clears stagnation in meridians and chakras, restores Qi flow, and nurtures overall harmony and vitality.
Why Gua Sha?
In our modern lives filled with stress, poor posture, and energetic blockages, blood stasis often accumulates in the superficial tissues, leading to pain, stiffness, heaviness, inflammation, or cold extremities. Gua Sha gently clears these blockages, restores free flow of Qi and blood, balances yin and yang, and supports the body’s innate healing intelligence. Regular sessions help prevent chronic issues, enhance skin health, and foster holistic well-being on physical, energetic, and emotional levels.

What to Expect?
Gua Sha can be added to a reflexology session or performed as a standalone treatment; sessions are intuitive and fully customizable. Ms. Corrie Ander begins with an assessment of tension, stagnation, and your goals. Natural oil is applied to allow smooth gliding, and the tool is used with gentle-to-firm pressure along targeted areas (neck, shoulders, back, arms, legs).
You may feel warmth, tingling, or deep release during the session. After treatment, the skin often shows temporary redness or light petechiae (Sha) as stagnation is released. This is normal, therapeutic, and usually fades within a few days. Many clients report immediate lightness, better mobility, and a glowing sense of well-being.
